Large police presence at UCLA as protests disrupt colleges nationwide

Hundreds of demonstrators have been arrested in the last 24 hours as protests against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza continue at university campuses across the nation. The majority of demonstrations have called for divestment from companies supporting Israel and the war in Gaza. At the University of California, Los Angeles, police have declared the pro-Palestinian protest on campus an unlawful assembly. Law enforcement used pepper balls and rubber bullets against protesters at the University of Arizona. In New York, around 300 protesters were arrested at Columbia University and City College, with discussions ongoing about graduation and the university’s next steps. Several universities, including City College of New York, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Fordham University, University at Buffalo, University of California, Los Angeles, University of New Hampshire, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Dallas, and University of Wisconsin-Madison, have experienced protests and arrests related to the issue.
